Sharks December Newsletter - Part 1

Dave Modzelewski

Greetings YNS Families,

My apologies for getting this out to you all later than expected. We had some coaching shortages the past few weeks which required me to fill in so that our swimmers could continue having the great experience that we are creating for them. Which, in turn, created a less than desirable experience for our team parents.

Rather than send you one long email I am going to break the information up into three shorter messages with appropriate titles in the subject lines so you know what we'll be covering.

We have had a lot of activities and events come and go in November as well as coming up in December and January.

Here is the order of the messages that we'll send over the next couple of days:

  1. Wednesday - November Meet Recaps, Holiday Film Event and Pre Team Showcase
  2. Thursday - Upcoming December Meets & Holiday Practice Schedule

  3. Friday - January Meets and Championship Meets through February and March

November Swim Meet Recaps

  • YNS Reid Sacco Invitational (11/11-13)

    • We had over 150 YNS Swimmers participate in this Meet, which is up 20% from our IMX/IMR Challenge at the beginning of the season

    • 60% of all of our swims were either Personal Bests or new swims for the first time

    • We represented in our Finals Sessions better than any other team that attended in terms of number of swimmers at finals, placing better than seeded, and time improvements

    • Our 10/Unders continue to show their improvement by swimming many new events for the first time, whether by stroke or distance

    • We had numerous Championship Qualifying Times achieved, including Districts, Silvers, Age Groups, Y New England’s, Seniors, and Y Nationals

  • WYW Thanksgiving Invitational (11/18-20)

    • We sent 18 swimmers to CT for this Meet, and ended up placing 7th for Boys, 5th for Girls, and 7th Overall, against local teams who had over 50 swimmers at the Meet (some even had 100 Kids there)

    • Coming off of our Reid Sacco Invitational the weekend before, we still had a showing of 35% Best Times

    • Our Prelims/Timed Finals/Finals Swims were handled very well by our swimmers after a tiring back to back double Prelims/Finals weekends

    • We again had many new Championship Qualifying Times achieved, including a few NE Records set!

  • NE Regional Championship (12/2-4)

    • We sent over 115 Swimmers to Regional Champs this season, which is on pace with our number from last year, however it was 2 months earlier this time around, so our swimmers were just as prepared and as successful earlier than last year

    • We continued the trend of numerous Championship Qualifying Times and over 60% Personal Bests

    • The Meet was not scored, but I’d have to believe that we would’ve won or at least been top 3 based on our performances

Swim Team / Gymnastics Holiday Movie Event

  • For those who attended this event at the Cabot Theater, it was wonderful to be able to share this night with you all

  • The kids and Coaches had a great time! We sent over 150 swimmers, friends, and family from swim team alone, and total with gymnastics, we had over 350 people there

  • The best part of the night by far, was the singing to help get Santa’s sleigh to fly!

PreTeam Holiday Showcase

  • We hosted our Mid-Season PreTeam Meet this past Sunday

  • The Swimmers learned so much about how Swim Meets work, what to do, where to go, what to know, and most importantly had fun!

  • All Swimmers Results have been added to your Team Unify Accounts. To find them: Login to your Account > My Account > Account Info > Members Tab > Click your Swimmers Name > Meet Results Tab

  • If you have any trouble navigating to this, you can contact your Lead Site Coaches for help

  • What happens now??

    • This week, each site will be preparing a list (and checking it twice) to identify PreTeam Swimmers who are ready to move to our Bronze group! (And potentially from Bronze to Silver, and Silver to Gold to make some room if necessary)

    • Early next week, the Coaching Staff will be reaching out to those families whose Swimmers have been identified as “Ready to Promote” to discuss Practice Schedules, Fees, and anything else they’ll need to know, and make the decision to move to Bronze or stay in PreTeam

    • If you have not been contacted next week, your Swimmer will remain in PreTeam, as there is still more that they may need to learn. You can reach out to your site’s PreTeam Coaches for more information for your Swimmer

    • On January 2nd, all swimmers will begin with their new group (if there was a promotion). Until then, everyone will remain where they currently are through 2022

Thank you for your patience as we get all of this great information out to you! And a huge thank you to everyone who has attended and volunteered to help make all of these events such a great success!

Sincerely,

Coach Dave & The YNS Coaching Staff
