Sharks December Newsletter - Part 3

Dave Modzelewski

Good Afternoon YNS Families,

THis is the final issue of the December Newsletter. We hope you found all of this information helpful in understanding what we've done, what we're doing, and where we're going. Of course, if you ever have any questions, you can always reach out to your Lead Site Coach.

In this issue, we will be covering January Meets and Championship Meets through February and March

January Upcoming Meets

  • YNS Snowball (January 14-15)

    • Sign Up will be posted today!

    • Anyone in Bronze, Silver, Gold, PreSenior, Senior, & Senior Elite may attend

    • If you get promoted from PreTeam to Bronze in January, you will still have time to sign up, don’t worry!

    • The meet is being held in Beverly, and all Information will be posted in the Meet Invitation.

  • YNS 50’s Frenzy (January 21) **NEW YMCA MEET**

    • This is a NEW MEET that we have created in order to help meet our YMCA Eligibility Requirements for attending YMCA Championships.

    • If you are interested in attending YMCA District Champs, you must attend this Meet

    • The only events offered will be 50’s and 25’s of all Strokes…yes even for 13/Over’s!

    • This is meant to be a fun and quick Meet, but the Times will count for USA Swimming and YMCA Swimming

    • More information to come soon, but please put it on your Calendars!

  • District Champs (January 27-29)

    • This is our YMCA League Championship Meet

    • If you are interested in attending YMCA New Englands and/or Y Nationals, you should attend this Meet

    • Each age group will have 1 session over the course of the weekend, specific days and times will be listed in the Meet Information Invitation

    • If you are available that weekend, just Sign-Up. Don’t worry about anything you see about Meet Eligibility or Qualifying Times. Your Coaches will let you know if you are not eligible after you sign up.

Championship Meets

  • These are New England Swimming/USA Swimming and YMCA Championship Meets (and a Maine Championship)

  • All swimmers that qualify should intend to attend these Meets for all days. More Meet Specific Info will be included in the Meet Information Invitation

  • Qualifying Times can be found here

  • Coaches will be choosing the Best Events with the Swimmers

NE Silver Championship (February 3-5)

  • Intended for all QUALIFIERS

  • Location is Sterling YMCA in Beverly MA (HOME MEET!)

  • Must have achieved at least 1 Qualifying Time in an event

  • Times Standards

10/Under Age Groups (February 17-19)

  • Intended for 10/Unders ONLY

  • Location is the University of Rhode Island in Kingston, RI

  • Must have achieved at least 1 Qualifying Time in an Event

  • Time Standards

  • We will be looking to do as many Relays as possible, so please make yourselves available for all days

11-14 Age Groups (March 3-5)

  • Intended for Swimmers ages 11-14 ONLY

  • Location is Boston Sports Institute, Wellesley, MA

  • Must have achieved at least 1 Qualifying Time in an Event

  • Time Standards

  • We will be looking to do as many Relays as possible, so please make yourselves available for all days

15-18 Age Groups (March 10-12)

  • WE ARE NOT ATTENDING THIS MEET

  • This Meet has flip flopped around different weekends and different locations over the past 2-3 months. As such, we have made other plans due to the uncertainty of this event occurring. We have been accepted into the Maine Senior Championship, which should be a much better atmosphere and our swimmers will have much more success.

  • Please intend on attending the Maine Senior Championship…NOT this 15-18 Age Group Championship (which is why it is not on our Meet Schedule)

Maine Senior Championship (March 3-5)

  • Intended for ALL SWIMMERS who qualify

  • Those who qualified for 11-14 Age Groups should attend 11-14 Age Groups. If a swimmer has qualified for 11-14 Age Groups, but would rather attend this Meet, we can discuss it.

  • Time Standards

  • Location is Bowdoin College in Brunswick, Maine

  • As mentioned above, YNS was granted an Invitation to attend this Meet, and we have accepted that invitation in lieu of attending the NE 15-18 Age Group Championship, which at the time, did not have a date or location

  • We will have more swimmers qualified for this Meet than the NE 15-18 Age Group Championship, which should provide a better Championship Experience for all who attend.

  • More information will be sent about this Meet soon!

YMCA New England Championship (March 17-19)

  • Intended for ALL SWIMMERS who qualify

  • Time Standards

  • Location is WPI in Worcester, MA

  • Any swimmer who intends to attend Y Nationals should probably attend this Meet to satisfy the YMCA Championship Eligibility Criteria

  • More on this Meet to come soon

National Centennial Invitational (March 30-April 2)

  • Intended for ALL Swimmers as an end of the season celebratory Meet…which is also a very high level meet

  • Location is Centennial Park in Port Charlotte, FL

  • We are waiting for Hotel Accommodations List from the Meet Host, and once we receive that, we will figure out a Team Hotel

  • This is a Prelims/Finals Meet, and we plan on doing a few Team Activities while we are down in Florida

  • There are no Time Standards

YMCA National Championship (April 2-7)

  • Intended for the highest level Swimmers in YMCA Swimming

  • Time Standards

  • Location is the Greensboro Aquatics Center Greensboro, NC

  • If you are qualified, your Coaches will be setting up arrangements with you in February

Thank you to all Parents/Volunteers for your help in getting the swimmers to practice & meets. Thank you for volunteering your time in any and every capacity whether being a Timer, Meet Marshall, Officials, Timing Table, PAC Members, Social Events help, etc. We have done some great work for our Swimmers so far this season, but there is still much more to do as we look ahead to 2023!

Go Sharks!
