10/Under Age Group Championship

Dave Modzelewski

Over the weekend, twelve of our youngest Sharks traveled to the University of Rhode Island for a 3 day Championship Age Group swim Meet for 10/Under’s starting on Friday, February 17th and ending Sunday the 19th. This Meet consisted of the fastest 10/Under swimmers from all over New England, 52 teams in total. Our YNS Sharks have been working hard leading up to this Competition and they definitely showed that they are rising stars.

Out of the 52 teams, the YNS Boys and Girls combined for a 17th place finish overall (Boys 11th place & Girls 30th place) at the end of a long weekend with tons of best times and podium finishes across the board including an 8/Under Boys 4th place High Point Award for Teddy McLaughlin. We had over 80% best times throughout the weekend and many recognizable Top 16 finishes including Stella McLaughlin who was a top 16 finisher in all of her events for 9-10 girls. It is safe to say that our swimmers came prepared for a fun weekend full of fast swimming.

We brought the party along with us with our Shark sunglasses, tattoos, dancing feet and a whole lot of cheering. If a swimmer was in the water for an event, all of our Sharks were behind their lane cheering them on. One thing that can be expected at a 10&U Meet, lots of fun and the smiles on our swimmers faces showed just that.

This was just the start of many Championship Meets coming up for YNS. March is filled with Meets such as the New England 11-14 Age Group Championships at Boston Sports Institute in Wellesley, followed by New England 15-18 Age Group Championships at WPI starting March 10th where some of our older Sharks will be showing what they've all been working hard for all season. Later in the month we have the YMCA New England Championships which is the last Meet of the short course season for most Sharks who aren’t traveling to Florida for the National Centennial Invite at the end of the month.

YNS Swimmers that competed over the weekend: Sean Abbady, Catie Boland, Bea Derr, Henrik Derr, Bria Dolinger, Nicholas Gusev, Lee Klag, Quentin Klag, John Matook, Stella McLaughlin, Teddy McLaughlin, & Max Russo.
