YNS - End of Season Recap / Start of 2024-2025 Swim Year

Dave Modzelewski

Good Morning YNS Families!

It is that sad time of year when our Swim Year and Long Course Season comes to an end, but also the most exciting part because we get to reflect on our Team's accomplishments over the past year!

That said, there are NO PRACTICES this week and moving forward until our next season begins in September! The Beverly Pool Renovation is currently on track, as well as the Locker Room Renovation, so we are hoping to get back into our Beverly Pool, as well as our Ipswich, Marblehead, and Salem pools, after the school year begins, on September 9th. We will release all of our Practice Schedules and Group Roster Placements once they are approved this week. So for now, enjoy the next couple of weeks OFF from the practice regimen, spend some time with family, go on a vacation, or just simply relax! We hope that this time off re-energizes our Swimmers and gets them looking forward to getting back into the swing of things when we start in September!

Now for the exciting stuff…

Team Growth!

First, we saw our Sharks family grow by 10% with new swimmers from across all of our locations, the most being from our Ipswich location! Why is this important? Growing our Sharks family allows for our Team to enjoy more benefits such as social events, travel meets, and the overall atmosphere of the team building and camaraderie that we’ve been nurturing over the past 3 years. We are hoping that this Olympic Season will further increase our school of sharks in the upcoming Short Course Season!

New Swimmer Evaluations!

If you know of anyone looking for a Swim Team Evaluation, please send them to any of our Lead Site Coaches, or just direct them here to sign up for a day/time: https://www.gomotionapp.com/team/neyns/page/join-yns2

New Coaches!

As you know, we have hired a new Full Time Coach in Ipswich to help Coach Garrett lead our awesome Ipswich location. Coach Garreth has been helping out for the past few weeks, has finished his coaching certifications, and has even been on deck for a few Swim Meet sessions already! We are excited to see what Coach Garreth will bring to Ipswich.

We have also hired a part time Assistant Coach for our Beverly & Ipswich location. Coach Janelle Maxwell is a former club and college swimmer, and will be helping out with all groups periodically throughout the week.

Please give a big welcome to our newest Coach additions when you see them!

Team Records!

We continue to rewrite our YNS Record Books! If I listed them all, this email would be too many pages long. All of our Team Records can be viewed here, and you can see the most recent ones…there’s a lot of them!! Congratulations to those who have made it into YNS History!

Championship Meets!

Our Swimmers qualified for every level of Championship Meet that our New England region has to offer, all the way up to the highest level of YMCA competition, and even the beginning levels of being nationally recognized in the USA! We attended meets such as NE Silver Champs, NE 10/Under Age Group Champs, NE 11-14 Age Group Champs, NE Senior Champs, YMCA National Championship, & USA Paralympic Team Trials.

  • We had our first Combined Score (Mens & Womens points) at NE Senior Champs since 2020!
  • We sent 17 Swimmers to NE 10/Under Age Groups Champs, our most in 3 years, and they placed 16th out of over 50 Teams!
  • We placed 13th out of over 50 Teams at the NE 11-14 Age Group Champs with only 9 Swimmers! (the best placing of any Team in our immediate area)
  • We had 3 swimmers qualify and committed to represent Team New England at the Eastern Zone Age Group Championship
  • We had our first YMCA National Championship points since 2018!
  • We had our first USA Swimming Futures Qualifiers since 2016...and we had 2 of them!

Looking ahead, Coach Dave and YNS Swimmer Leanne Smith, will be representing Team USA at the upcoming Paralympic Games as Coach and Swimmer respectively.

Varsity Swim Shop Team Gear Portal Opening!

Once we begin our Short Course Season, we will be opening our Team Vendor Website for all of your apparel and swimming gear needs, the date is still TBD, but we will let you know when it is open.

We look forward to having our Annual Team Fitting event with Varsity at the Beverly Y this fall and will be sharing more information in the coming weeks.

2024-2025 YNS Team Registration Opening!

Registration for the upcoming Swim Year will open this week! We will send another note when it does. We are working on wording/editing of current disclosures and agreements for the ‘24-’25 Season. It will be the same process as this past season, you sign up via our TeamUnify website, and then the Coaching Staff will register you into the YMCA’s Daxko website.

All returning USA Swimming Members (Bronze-Senior Elite in 2023-2024) will be charged your USA Swimming Membership fee upon registering on TeamUnify. If your swimmer is moving onto the team, you will have a small registration fee with the team and be responsible for completing USA Swimming Registration in the fall. We will share more information about this process in the coming weeks.

Once the Coaching Staff registers your Swimmer into the Daxko website, that is where the Program Fees will be billed. More information on this can be found within the agreements upon registration (and we will outline it again in another email).

Please be diligent when Registration opens! We are trying to take in new Swimmers onto the Team, and knowing where our current roster stands is very helpful in determining how many new swimmers we can take into our Sharks family!

We are looking forward to another great Short Course Season, and even more amazing year with you! Thank you for everything you have done for our Team and Swimmers over the past year, we couldn’t do it without you!

Sincerely,

Your YNS Coaching Staff
